Star Wars: Lucasfilm Already Has Young Han Solo Concept Art

Making the rounds today is a page from the officially-licensed Star Wars book The Art of Revenge of the Sith, in which it's revealed that concept artist Iain McCaig has already done concept art for a young Han Solo--the type of work that might be relevant to a spinoff film exploring the background of the character. "It's not in the script anymore, but we were told that Han Solo was on Kashyyyk and that he was being raised by Chewbacca," explained McCaig in the book. "He's such a persnickety guy later on – he always has to have the best of everything – so I thought it'd be great if when he was a kid, he was an absolute slob." There's also an interesting twist regarding the rumored Yoda spinoff, and how it might intersect with the rumored Han Solo spinoff, in that the only known line this young Solo was to have in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was delivered in a piece of conversation with Yoda. That same scene would have called for Yoda to be communing with the ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn, all in an attempt to put a stop to Grievous. It's unlikely that the films would cross over directly, as any Solo film would want to cast a version of the character who's old enough to avoid the Jake Lloyd problems of Episode I, but the notion that Solo had interacted directly with the Jedi Master is an interesting notion, particularly given his skepticism of hokey religions and ancient weapons later in life.
