Just call him Chief Whigham.

Marvel.com and ABC announced tonight that Boardwalk Empire veteran Shea Whigham has joined the cast of Marvel's Agent Carter as SSR Chief Roger Dooley.

The character, described as "tough, but fair-minded," is the man who will oversee Agents Carter (Hayley Atwell), Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Sousa (Enver Gjokaj).

Atwell, who plays Captain America's first love and S.H.I.E.L.D. co-founder Peggy Carter, is the series lead. Here's how Marvel describes the show: It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life--Steve Rogers.

The character has previously appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as well as a Marvel One-Shot short film, also titled Agent Carter.

Whigham also appeared in The Silver Linings Playbook with X-Men: Days of Future Past star Jennifer Lawrence and Guardians of the Galaxy star Bradley Cooper.

Marvel's Agent Carter will serve as a bridge series that will air in early 2015 during an extended hiatus for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The idea is to give the parent series more prep time to avoid the numerous shorter breaks that annoyed fans during Season One while still giving viewers something to look forward to every week from Marvel.
