If you just can't wait to see space pilots take center stage in Rogue One,animator and artist Paul Johnson has created an animate Star Wars fan film that reimagines the galactic struggle from the point of view of the Empire, and in the style of 1980s Japanese animation.

The film shows a space battle between the Imperial Fleet's TIE Fighters and some rebel scum. It's a bit like Star Wars meets Robotech. There's no dialogue, but it features a song by guitarist Zak Rahman, "Interdictor," and borrows some sound effects from the TIE Fighter series of videogames.

Johnson says the film was animated over "4 years' worth of weekends." He even created a movie poster to go along with the film, seen above.

Check out the film below:

If you want to dive deeper into the film, Johnson has also released a PDF profiling the characters seen in the film. It can be found here.
