While no one has yet been cast, TV Line has the news that Lucy Lane will be appearing on the forthcoming Supergirl series from CBS.

As in the comics, Lucy will be Jimmy Olsen's ex-girlfriend. A number of elements from the series, including a less buffoonish Jimmy and supporting characters like Cat Grant and Hank Henshaw, originated in the post-The Man of Steel comics of the late '80s and early '90s -- an era in which Jimmy and Lucy were on-again/off-again for years.

The casting notice says that Lucy is "In her mid-20s to early 30s" and "brash, funny and beautiful as her sister Lois, yet strong, smart and successful in her own right."

Lucy is one of a number of characters to have adopted the name Superwoman over the years, having been set up as a foe for Supergirl by her father, General Sam Lane. Traditionally, Lucy has been portrayed as kind of the black sheep of the family, living in Lois' shadow and struggling for her parents' attention. She's also frequently been depicted as blind, although in most continuities she is cured of her blindness at a fairly young age, so a version of Lucy who's being cast in her late 20s or early 30s may not be.

Lucy Lane was portrayed by Peyton List on Smallville before List went on to appear as the Golden Glider on The Flash.
