Just as BB-8 stole the show in the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens footage, and again on stage at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, he rolled once more into hearts during the unprecedented 18-hour "Global Unboxing" event held by Lucasfilm and Youtube.

This time around, it's a BB-8 that you can take home with you, and like the one in the film, it almost miraculously works, able to be driven around using a remote control app on a smart phone. The BB-8 droid you take home with you is considerably smaller than the one in the film, standing at about a fist tall instead of waist height.

Demonstrated live on the video stream, the droid rolls around by your control, or can be placed into a patrol mode, rolling around on its own. You can also record a video message in "holographic" form, that plays through an augmented reality portion of the app - by looking at your BB-8 through your phone's camera, you can see the hologram projected behind it. It's a neat trick to make it seem like the droid is more like the ones in the Star Wars films than a toy.

The BB-8, by Sphero, is available Friday September 4, 2015, at a suggested retail price of $149.99. It is, most definitely, the droid you're looking for.
