A RoboCop sequel? ...I'd buy that for a dollar!

José Padilha's remake of RoboCop, that starred Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) in the title role, didn't set the box office on fire in 2014. It opened with $21.6M at the North American box office and finished its domestic run with $58.6M. It did much better overseas, grossing $184M at the foreign box office, however, $50M of that came from China. While that is nice to see, studios receive a much smaller cut (25%) of the box office returns in the Middle Kingdom.

Nevertheless, Sony Pictures isn't quite ready to give up on the property and according to the entertainment website Den of Geek the studio is currently taking pitches for a RoboCop sequel. They added, "Our source confirmed that Sony hasn't shut the project down, although it doesn't appear to be a high priority."

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and OmniCorp – the world's leader in robot technology – sees a golden opportunity to reap billions for their company. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured, OmniCorp grabs their chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and will stop at nothing – no matter the cost to Alex – to make sure the program succeeds. But OmniCorp never counted on one thing: there is still a man fighting inside the machine.
