Fox has officially announced that Tony Award-winner, Annaleigh Ashford, has joined the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show remake, which begins production next month.
Ashford will play Columbia, the castle’s feisty live-in groupie. The role was originally played by Nell Campbell in 1975 gender-bending cult classic.
Ashford is most well known for being a Broadway star, winning praise for her performances as Essie Carmichael in "You Can’t Take It With You," the title role in "Sylvia" and Lauren in "Kinky Boots." Aside from stage work, Ashford has a recurring role, Betty DiMello, in Showtime's Masters of Sex and made her film debut in Sex and the City: The Movie.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show follows sweethearts Janet Weiss and Brad Majors, who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s bizarre abode. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous flirtatious alien mad-scientist, is holding an annual, Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of “Rocky Horror” – a fit, attractive man created solely to fulfill Frank's desires.
The two-hour Rocky Horror Picture Show event will air in the fall of 2016 on Fox.
