The Big Bang Theory Recap with Spoilers - "The Convergence Convergence"

The episode opens with Penny explaining that she successfully bonded with Leonard's mother. However, Penny promised Leonard's mother they would throw a second wedding ceremony so she could attend. Leonard is reluctant, but Penny wants to invite their friends and families (including Leonard's dad), so Leonard agrees.

The next morning, Penny breaks the news to Bernadette and Amy. Amy asks if this ceremony will involve a maid of honor, but Penny wants to keep things informal. Penny does agree to let Amy wear a fancy dress and then asks Bernadette to officiate. Sheldon walks in and says that he's invited his mother to Penny and Leonard's wedding along with a host of celebrities.

Bernadette mentions that Penny's going through a lot of trouble for Leonard's mother, but Penny mentions she thinks the wedding would do wonders for Leonard's relationship with his mother. However, the show then cuts to Leonard getting chewed out by his mother for inviting his father to the wedding.

At the lab, Howard completes the test for their navigation system, meaning they have a working model. As soon as the model is finished, the US Air Force emails him and asks for a meeting about the model.

Amy and Sheldon pick Sheldon's mother up from the airport. She seems less than enthused that Leonard's mother is also coming to the wedding, mainly because the two have a less than friendly relationship. Sure enough, Beverly and Mary make some very painful attempts at polite conversation back at the apartment, much to the horror of Amy and Penny. Sheldon's totally oblivious that the two don't like each other, though.

Howard is freaking out about the Air Force's request, and is convinced the Air Force will make them all disappear if he doesn't agree. Raj thinks the Air Force just wants to pay them a lot of money for the navigation system, but Howard cites movies like ET and Jurassic World in disagreement.

Leonard and his father arrive at the apartment. Leonard's father would rather have a heart attack than see his ex-wife again, but he had a successful heart surgery recently, so he's doing fine. When they arrive at the apartment, Leonard's parents immediately exchange insults, causing even Sheldon to sense some underlying tension. Leonard begs his parents not to fight, which causes a round of tense apologies. However, Sheldon refuses to apologize for pointing out the restaurant they're about to eat only got three and a half stars on Yelp.

Howard continues his freak out and considers just not responding to the Air Force's request. Raj points out that it could be a foreign nation posing as the US Air Force, which makes Howard even more fearful.

In the car, Leonard and Penny suffer through Beverly's passive aggressive comments, while Leonard's father (Alfred) and Mary hit it off in the back of Sheldon and Amy's vehicle. The two bond over Alfred's anthropological studies and their mutual hatred of Beverly.

When Raj tries to figure out various outlandish solutions to Howard's Air Force problems, Bernadette finally shuts the pair down, pointing out that their love of geeky media has warped their brains. Howard then freaks out upon seeing a car following them (it's Leonard and Penny), which leads to an odd high speed chase throughout Los Angeles.

Mary and Alfred continue to bond over wine, when Leonard arrives. Penny calls Bernadette to find out what happened, but Bernadette insists that they start dinner without them, as Howard's been pulled over for speeding and ranting that the government is out to get him.

At dinner, Alfred and Mary continue to flirt when Leonard proposes a toast. He says that the last year was the best year of his life and thanks Penny for saying yes. Alfred then gives a toast, but Beverly snaps and ruins the whole thing. Alfred and Mary leave together, leading Leonard to wonder what the heck is happening between his father and Sheldon's mother, but Sheldon is just oblivious as usual.

Back at the apartment, Penny taunts Leonard and Sheldon for their parents' imminent hookup while the pair look on with growing dread.
