The Walking Dead is not only the most watched series on cable but, likely as a result, it is also the most talked about show on Twitter from the 2015-2016 season.

According to new numbers released by Nielsen, The Walking Dead took the trophy for most talked about show last season with an average of 435,000 tweets sent per episode. Almost half a million tweets were enough to edge the closest competition which came from Fox's music drama Empire. Empire did manage to top The Walking Dead with its premiere this season, though, earning 1.3 million tweets in the U.S. about the September 2015 episode.

This is the third year in a row that The Walking Dead has been the top dog on Twitter. The numbers were not released for The Walking Dead but Empire averaged about four tweets per author per episode.

Rounding out the top 10, in order, are Game of Thrones, The Bachelor, The Voice, WWE Monday Night Raw, American Horror Story: Hotel, Teen Wolf, Love & Hip Hop, and Scandal.

The Walking Dead's season seven return will likely have fans buzzing more than ever as the latter half of Negan's introduction will be shown, meaning a core character from the series will have their head bashed in by a baseball bat. If that doesn't garner an insane amount of tweets, what will?

The Walking Dead is currently in the midst of production on its seventh season. The series will return in October but in the mean time we can expect a trailer to spawn from San Diego Comic Con in July.
