With Marvel already teasing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's toy line-up, director James Gunn is now breaking more awesome news via Facebook about the film's merchandise. When asked by fan Eduardo D. Jorge if he'd be able to buy his daughter a Gamora action figure, Gunn said he was sure the film's female characters would get their own toys.

Gunn answered the father's by writing, "I'm making sure this time around the female characters are more represented in the toy world. Not only Gamora, but Mantis, Nebula, and Elizabeth Debicki's character as well."

For fans, Gunn's announcement signals a change in a toy market which has often failed to produce toys based on female characters like Black Widow and Wonder Woman. Most recently, Star Wars even came under fire as the latest film's merchandise failed to include enough figures of its hero Rey and overlooked other characters such as General Leia, Captain Phasma, and Maz Kanata.

Ahead of Gunn's words, Marvel had already released information about the film's merchandise by saying they will definitely focus on Groot toys this time. The company showed off its new products at the 2016 Licensing Expo where the Senior VP of Licensing, Paul Gitter, told Variety they were focusing on the film's lovable talking tree.

"As affinity and awareness for the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' franchise and its characters continues to grow by leaps and bounds, we are building out a much larger merchandising program to meet the increasing demand from fans...there will be a much stronger focus on Groot, who proved to be the breakout character from the first film," he said.

Groot, who stole hearts in Guardians of the Galaxy, will feature in an impressive array of toys once the film's sequel hits theaters. And, if James Gunn's promise holds, it seems like there'll be plenty of Gamora and Nebula toys lining store shelves too.
