There's something evil hiding in the woods…

Those attending the midnight showing/world premiere of Adam Wingard's The Woods at San Diego Comic-Con, were shocked to learn the movie is actually Blair Witch, a secret sequel to 1999's The Blair Witch Project. This one has the brother of Heather Donahue's character going into the woods, searching for his long-thought-dead sister.

In this day and age, it seems nearly impossible that a secret of this magnitude could be kept under wraps, but somehow, someway, Lionsgate and the people involved with the film did so. Kudos to them!

"The Woods was our working title," Wingard told EW. "When we signed on to it, we knew that [the name] was eventually going to be changed. To us, it wasn't even going to be part of the marketing. But I think Lionsgate made a really smart decision, using that."

A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James' sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.

The cast features James Allen McCune (Showtime's Shameless), Callie Hernandez (Alien: Covenant), Brandon Scott (Wreck-It Ralph), Valorie Curry (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2), Corbin Reid (The Woods), and Wes Robinson (The Woods).

The film is directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett. The pair previously collaborated on You're Next (2013)and The Guest (2014).

Blair Witch will be released on September 16, 2016.
