Many members of the nerd community turn to cosplay in order to capture the essence of their favorite comic characters. Some nerds, however, go even harder.

This week on AweMe, a Spawn super-fan did the unthinkable, and forged a perfect replica of the battle axe used in the comics and video game.

Matt Stagmer, co-owner of Baltimore Knife and Sword, joined the hosts on AweMe to bring the legendary weapon to life. From the handle, to the blade, the weapon he created was 100% authentic, and completely usable.

AweMe is a web-series dedicated to home-builds and DIY projects, and many of their popular episodes center around adapting material from film and comics. During their most recent episode, AweMe took a long look at Spawn weaponry.

To demonstrate the devastating power of the axe, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane joined the show as well. After the hosts were given a chance to swing the weapon at a bust of an evil clown, McFarlane was given a shot.

In both instances, the busts were cut fairly easily, and there was no doubt the axe was powerful. After finally getting to swing the weapon, Todd seemed impressed with Stagmer's creation.

Todd McFarlane is best known for his legendary work as the writer and artist for Spawn, as well as his take on Spider-Man and Batman. Now, McFarlane serves as the president of Image Comics, and the owner of popular toy manufacturer, McFarlane Toys.

Spawn

Spawn debuted for Image comics in 1992, with the release of Spawn #1. The story follows Al Simmons, a former military official who was killed by an old friend. After his death, Al made a deal with an evil being to return to the life he had left behind. Instead of resurrecting as the man he was, Al came back to Earth as the demonic herald, Spawn.

Spawn comics have enjoyed numerous runs over the last 24 years, most of them written and illustrated by Todd McFarlane. the character also appeared in a feature film, an animated series, and a video game.
