It's safe to say that J.K. Simmons takes his role as Commissioner Gordon seriously. The acclaimed actor was cast to play the classic DC Comics character in Zack Snyder's Justice League. The detective will also show up in future films like Ben Affleck's Batman movie. And, now, Simmons is letting fans know how excited he is for the movie.

Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, Simmons told the site, "I'm really excited to be working with Ben and, in the future, to be working with Ben on both sides of the camera."

"He is such a, you know, not just a great actor, but a moviemaker. And he knows, certainly much more than I do, I mean, we've had this conversation. He loves writing and producing and directing and being that, and loves going back forth between that and acting.

Currently, Simmons and Affleck are doing press junkets together before their film The Accountant premieres. At an earlier interview, they talked about their impending reunion on Batman as Simmons said the reprisal was great since it let him "work with Ben again."

For now, there is no word on how Simmons' role of Commissioner Gordon might be used in the solo Batman flick. The actor has talked at length about how his iteration of the character would be more "badass" than previous depictions.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor said he wants to redefine Commissioner Gordon to older fans who know him as a "jolly, ineffectual Santa Claus" figure.

"I think over the years in the comics there's definitely much more of a badass side to him," Simmons stressed. "One of the things that's interesting to me is investigating hopefully a little bit more of that badass [side]...You're living in a universe where it's pretty tough to be a badass compared to somebody like Batman, but in the universe of non-superheroes I like the idea of Commissioner Gordon as a guy that can take care of himself, a guy that's a real partner to Batman, not just a guy that turns on the bat signal and goes, 'Help! Help, Batman!'"

However, fans won't get to see the police officer's tough guy demeanor full-on in Justice League. Simmons said the ensemble superhero film will only introduce Commissioner Gordon to fans. "In the first film that we're currently shooting [Justice League], my part is not as big as," he said.

"Knock wood, it will be in some of the future films," he continued. "I'm lobbying right now: let Commissioner Gordon be a badass."

The last time fans saw Commissioner Gordon on the big screen, they were treated to Gary Oldman's lauded work. While Simmons is a self-professed fan of the actor's character study, he told Entertainment Tonight that he didn't ask for any pointers from Oldman.

"Actors like to do their own thing," Simmons said. "Gary Oldman is a great, great actor, and I think he was awesome as Commissioner Gordon. I'm doing a difference version."

The Batman solo feature isn't expected before 2018. Justice League will hit theaters on November 16th, 2017.
