Doctor Strange is another successful expansion of the Marvel cinematic universe, but it isn't infallible. One such aspect came under fire from the media, but Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson did not agree.

Yahoo Movies UK tweeted out their story headline "Let's hope Rachel McAdams is the last great actress to play a useless superhero girlfriend." That is quite the headline, and bound to elicit a reaction. Derrickson didn't let it pass him by.

Doctor Strange Reaction

He tweeted a reply that said: "She saves 2 lives, morally contrasts the protagonist, experiences magic. Oh, and she's nobody's girlfriend."

The main crux of the article's argument is that Palmer doesn't have a life outside of Strange, and at one point is told by Strange how to perform an operation (coincidentally, it's on him). Palmer is more than qualified to figure that out for herself, but that doesn't mean she's anywhere close to Jane Foster or Pepper Pots in the character development department. Derrickson was previously asked about Palmer, where he said "Correct, she does the saving."

Still, before making any judgments you should definitely watch the film for yourself and then read the whole article. You might agree or disagree, but at least you'll be informed.

From Marvel Studios comes Doctor Strange, the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place – a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long, Strange – armed with newly acquired magical powers – is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.

Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, and Scott Adkins, with Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. Scott Derrickson is directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Charles Newirth and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. Jon Spaihts and Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill wrote the screenplay.
