In 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy came into theaters with a bang. The small-time story waltzed into the big leagues as fans and critics fawned over the quippy, action-packed romp. Much of the film's success is directly thanks to director James Gunn. And, now, the visionary is giving fans a look into how he first pitched the sci-fi superhero flick.

Taking to Facebook, Gunn shared an interesting photo from his presentation packet for Guardians of the Galaxy. The page shows a series of storyboards Gunn pitched to Marvel Studios when he was pleading to sit in the film's director seat.
"In the process of moving, I came across a presentation packet for Marvel Studios, when I pitched myself as director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. The packet included a 20 page document on the visuals of Guardians, a 10 page document on methodology, and a 42 page document shot-listing and storyboarding the first scene in the movie," he wrote. "Here's Star-Lord's first scene (yes, Morag was formerly Mazar - and, yes, my shot-lists are always this wordy.)"
The director is not wrong about his pitches being wordy, but at least they're funny. For instance, the final shot description contains a slew of laughable lines. "It's obvious we're on what must have once been the bottom of the ocean. If this were a John Ford Wester shot, our Figure would be moving past the misshapen red mountains of Utah — this is our messed-up version of that," Gunn wrote.
Of course, the storyboards have caught the attention of fans everywhere. With its behind-the-scene insight and hilarious descriptions, fans are already clamoring for Gunn to release a proper production book for Guardians of the Galaxy. So, who knows? Fans may one day get to see much more of these panels should Gunn feel inclined.
Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
