Snowpiercer Series Reportedly Begins Filming In March

Since its initial release in 2013, the film Snowpiercer has achieved a unique following. The film, which originally struggled to find an American audience after creative differences with The Weinstein Company, was critically-acclaimed, and became a staple of a myriad of 'best of' lists for that year. And in the years since, its audience has only grown, giving the dark sci-fi tale a kind of cult-classic status.

With its unique setting - a globetrotting train safeguarding the remainder of humanity from the new ice age of the outside world - and ensemble of characters, the film was able to create a darkly poignant story about survival.

And now, fans of the film (as well as its source material, the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige) are one step closer to seeing the world of Snowpiercer translated to a new medium.

After a television pilot of Snowpiercer was ordered by TNT in November of last year, it looks like the project will soon be going into production. The site My Entertainment World, which logs the production information of television pilot episodes, has unveiled that the series will start filming in Mid-March of 2017, according to Omega Underground.

At this time, it is unknown where the series will be filmed, or when the pilot will eventually be seen by television audiences. The film adaptation took quite some time to film, in part due to the construction of the film's elaborate set pieces on a large gimbal system to mimic train movement.

It is unclear if the series, which is being overseen by Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), will follow the plot of the film and graphic novel, or tell a new story. The film's director, Bong Joon-Ho, will help produce the series.

As TNT's executive VP of original programming, Sarah Aubrey, explained when the series was announced, the network is very excited to be bringing the Snowpiercer story to television.

"Snowpiercer has one of the most original concepts to hit the screen in the last decade, and it's one that offers numerous opportunities for deeper exploration in a series format. We look forward to expanding TNT's relationship with Tomorrow Studios and their take on a world where humanity is pushed to the extreme."

While the film boasted an A-List cast such as Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, and Ed Harris, no casting information for the series has been announced thus far.

But fans of the previous adaptations of Snowpiercer can expect to hear more updates soon, as the series' pilot episode prepares to film.
