The Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (not final title) production is officially underway, Lucasfilm announced Tuesday. Principal photography began February 20, 2017, and was celebrated with a cast photo that included star Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and more. The first official logline for the film was included alongside the new image and announcement of principal photography, which is being held at Pinewood Studios, London, the primary shooting site of every Star Wars film. In a press release, Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed the movie will follow "the adventure-filled past of the iconic scoundrel and everyone's favorite Wookiee. The movie will explore the duo's adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian."
"Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous," directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said in the release. "We can't think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky."
Jon and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay, and many Star Wars veterans are on board the Millennium Falcon once again including: Neal Scanlan (Creature & Droid FX Creative Supervisor), Neil Lamont (Production Designer), Dave Crossman and Glyn Dillon (Co-Costume Designers), Jamie Wilkinson (Prop Master), Lisa Tomblin (Hair), Amanda Knight (Make-Up) and Nina Gold (UK Casting Director).
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is filming now under directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
