Bethesda had a pretty good showcase this week during E3, with its "Bethesdaland" playing host to reveals like Wolfenstein II and The Evil Within II. But some fans were wondering why more wasn't revealed by the company – namely, a new Elder Scrolls game.

It's been a few years since we've seen anything new in that particular series, save for the new add-ons that came out for Elder Scrolls Online, like Morrowind, which dropped earlier this month. And Bethesda has been doing a lot with its Skyrim release, bringing it to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 last year, and introducing it to the Nintendo Switch later this year. So why not a brand new Elder Scrolls adventure?

Well, there's a pretty good reason for that – there's not one in the works. According to PC Gamer, Bethesda's Pete Hines explained more on that certain situation. "(Bethesda has) at least two major titles they are working on before we're going to get to Elder Scrolls VI," he noted. And those projects aren't even close to done yet, so it may be a few years before that territory is visited again.

Hines noted that the two projects need to be "at a stage where they can be talked about" before the team even considers starting work on a new Elder Scrolls – so you're going to have to make do with the Skyrim ports and whatever's available in The Elder Scrolls Online for the time being – because it's going to be a while.

That said, Online certainly has a lot to offer with its Morrowind expansion, and we also saw that a Skyrim VR project is in the works for PlayStation VR, so there's that, at least.

As far as what the two mysterious projects are, Hines wouldn't say, but he did note that the games will be "big multiplatform releases." More than likely, we'll get details on what those are about around next year's E3, maybe with Bethesdaland making a return. We'll certainly pay it a visit, even without The Elder Scrolls VI in attendance. Hell, we're just happy Wolfenstein is back.
