When it comes to anime, fans tend to take their favorite series and plead for studios to give them live-action adaptations. In Japan, there are countless film adaptations of anime series and miniseries are also a common sight to see. In fact, live-action musicals are also a popular adaptation form, and franchises like One Piece have been gifted with critically praised shows. Back in December 2013, a musical play for Death Note was put into development before it debuted in April 2015 - and now that play will be making its way to America.

And, according to the show's writer, the musical will be coming sooner rather than later.

Over on Twitter, Ivan Menchell took to Twitter to answer a fan's question about the play. After the writer was asked where the English version was, Menchell told the fans that it is "coming soon!"

Of course, fans of the Death Note musical can hear some of its fan-favorite tracks in English. Before the play made its debut, a workshop for the project was held in New York where actors like Any Kelso, Robert Cuccioli, and Adrienne Warren provided vocals for songs like "Where Is The Justice?"

Right now, Death Note: The Musical has had a slew of runs in Asia. Cities like Tokyo and Seoul have hosted multiple productions since 2015.

If you are curious about other live-action anime musicals, then you have quite a list at your disposable. Series like Bleach, Black Butler, Pokemon, Prince of Tennis, and Sailor Moon have all had productions under their belt.

Later this year, Death Note will be getting a live-action push in America, but the project will not use any musical numbers. Over on Netflix, director Adam Wingard will be debuting his take on a live-action Death Note film with stars like Nat Wolff starring.

If you are not familiar with Death Note, then you should know the popular series is no shy about its dark, violent overtones. Originally published as a manga, Death Note tells the story of Light Yagami after the high school student comes across a strange notebook with deadly powers. Should the journal's owner inscribe someone's name in its pages, the intended victim will die. Intoxicated by his godlike power, Light begins to kill those he deems unworthy while local police frantically try to discover the culprit behind these mysterious deaths.
