On June 21, just a week after the release of Man of Steel in theaters next week, the town of Hutchinson, Kansas, will declare Smallville Day, tying local streets, tourist attractions and other sights in town into the Superman mythology. The Hutchinson City Council agreed Tuesday morning to proclaim June 21 as "Smallville Day" in honor of the comic book character Clark Kent and his alter ego Superman being inducted into the Kansas Hall of Fame, reports The Hutchinson News. The move was kickstarted by a Facebook campaign started by local residents who realized that the town shared a number of characteristics in common with Superman's fictional home. On June 21, the publisher of the local paper will travel to Topeka to accept Clark Kent's induction into the Hall of Fame, while back in Hutchinson they celebrate Smallville Day. Laura Siegel Larson, the daughter of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel, will also attend.
