Chuck Dixon and Jorge Zaffino's critically-acclaimed Winterworld will return to comics as an ongoing series from IDW Publishing launching this summer, the publisher announced today. "Returning to this story is something I never wanted to attempt unless it could be done right," said Dixon. "IDW provided the conditions to continue Scully and Wynn's story in a way that is true to Jorge's and my vision. Butch is just the start of a terrific slate of artists for the series." Joining Dixon on this series will be Butch Guice, who worked on the Death of Superman and Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America. Guice is known for his work on DC and Marvel characters but has a style suited to non-superhero books, too. His most recent high-profile project was launching Winter Solder with Brubaker. "Chuck is one of my favorite collaborators," said Guice, "I never turn down a chance to work with the guy. No one writes hard nosed brutal action tales like Chuck Dixon, and it doesn't get more brutal than Winterworld." Winterworld #1 picks up the story of a savvy trade rider, Scully, and Wynn, a young woman long separated from her family. Together they move through a bleak and frozen future in search of Wynn's parents encountering the brutality of a world where the coldest place on Earth is the human heart.
