Andy Serkis was a guest on last night's episode of Conan, and he brought some of his most iconic characters with him.

Conan O'Brien brought up the fact that the apes in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes have evolved since Rise of the Planet of the Apes, gaining the ability to speak. Serkis gave some example of how they communicate.

In the end, Serkis ends up acting through a phone call between Caesar and another popular character he has played, Gollum from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Eventually, even Sméagol get into it, debating with the others over whether or not Conan is actually funny.

"When they're arguing over whether or not I'm funny, they sound like my parents when I was growing up," Conan quips.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes comes to theaters July 11.
