DC Metal #2 offers a plethora of surprises, but one Batman-branded item in particular will elicit surprise and a chuckle all at the same time.
Spoilers incoming for DC Metal #2, so if you haven't read the issue yet you've been warned.
Picking up where DC Metal #1 left off, Batman managed to steal one of the most powerful items in the universe and is taking it to the location he believes can help stop the coming of Barbatos. That sentence alone is a good indication of the craziness that DC Metal revels in, but later on, it goes a bit further by giving Batman his very own metal.
That's right ladies and gentlemen, introducing Batmanium.
Batmanium is the final heavy metal needed for the Mantling, a process that the followers of Barbatos have been subjecting Batman to for some time right underneath his nose. The goal, of course, is that after the subject is treated with the right combination of heavy metals, Barbatos' high priests, the Strigydae, can then use that individual to summon the ancient entity.
For those who haven't kept up with those metals, here's a cliff notes version. The first metal is Electrum, and was given to Batman during his encounter with the Court of Owls in their Labyrinth. The second was Dionesium, present in the Lazarus Pits. The third is Promethium, which Batman used in his final machine to make him Batman again. The fourth metal was Nth Metal, which Batman has been investigating over recent months. He exposed himself to Nth Metal when he looked into the dark universe, which leaves one last metal to complete the process.
The final metal is the aforementioned Batmanium, but this metal required outside intervention. As Barbatos' servants reveal in DC Metal #2, it couldn't be created by conventional means. It became possible thanks to "the great Powers Collider in Gotham," allowing it to be forged underneath Gotham.
With the final metal introduced into the mix, Batman becomes the portal he's been fighting to stop, and no one is going to like what came through.
DC Metal #2 is in stores this today, and you can view the spoiler images in the gallery.
