With little competition from newcomers like Paramount's Ben-Hur remake, Focus Features' Kubo and the Two Strings, and Warner Bros.' War Dogs, David Ayer's Suicide Squad is set to win the North American box office for the third consecutive weekend.

On Friday, DC Comics' super-villain team-up film took the early lead with $6 million, pushing its domestic total to $247.5 million. That $6 million is a 54% drop from last Friday's figure. It's a significant drop, but not as steep as the 59% drop Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice experienced in its third Friday. Suicide Squad should top the weekend with $20.2 million.

Meanwhile, War Dogs took second on Friday with $5.5 million, but it only expected to finish in third for the weekend with $14.8 million. Sony's Sausage Party came in third on its second Friday with $4.95 million and is expected to finish its sophomore weekend with $15.7 million, putting it in second. Ben-Hur and Kubo and the Two Strings both took in $4.1 million on Friday and will compete for fourth and fifth for the weekend. They are expected to bring in $11 million-$12 million.

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?

Written and directed by David Ayer based on the characters from DC Comics, the film stars Will Smith ("Ali"), Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club"), Margot Robbie ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), Joel Kinnaman ("RoboCop") and Viola Davis ("The Help"). The cast also includes Jai Courtney ("Insurgent"), Jay Hernandez ("Takers"), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ("Thor: The Dark World"), Ike Barinholtz ("Neighbors"), Scott Eastwood ("Fury"), Cara Delevingne ("Paper Towns"), Adam Beach ("Cowboys & Aliens"), and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut. It is produced by Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

Suicide Squad is now playing in 3D, and in 2D, and in select IMAX 3D theaters.
