Gotham Season 3 Spring Return Date Announced by FOX

Gotham Season 3 will be taking a second hiatus this year, as Comicbook.com announced last August. The popular series based on DC Comics "Batman" properties will take all of February and March, and most of April off, while 24: Legacy airs in its timeslot.

The show returns on Monday night, January 16 from a six-week hiatus, to air a three-episode arc. Then it'll be off the air for just under 3 months, returning April 24, 2017 to finish off the season with eight more episodes. This all lines up with what Gotham executive producer John Stephens told Comicbook.com at San Diego Comic-Con last July.

“We’re doing eleven [episodes] in the Fall, then there’s three episodes in January, then the final run of seven or eight episodes in the Spring. [The three] is not a self-contained [series of] episodes, because it extends what we’re doing in the Fall, but it is an ended story, so we’ll arc it out," he said.

That's in contrast to Season 2, which had an even split of 11/11 and a very clear story arc that took up the first half, then the second half of the season.

First Gotham has the three-episode arc starting next week, though, which will mark the return of Jerome, the Joker-esque character that was killed, only to be revived by the machinations of Professor Hugo Strange. If he was crazy before, imagine what that particular journey has done to him. The synopsis reads:

“THE THINGS THAT HAUNT US ON AN ALL-NEW “GOTHAM” MONDAY, JANUARY 16, ON FOX. Falcone places a hit on Gordon after learning that he shot Mario. Gordon and Bullock discover a follower of Jerome (guest star Cameron Monaghan), who plans to bring him back to life. Meanwhile, Penguin spirals out of control before the biggest television interview of his Mayoral career, and Bruce and Selina deal with Selina’s mom’s return to Gotham in the all-new “Mad City: Ghosts” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, Jan. 16 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX.”

"Guest Cast: Ivana Milicevic as Maria Kyle, Paul Reubens as Elijah Van Dahl, Cameron Monaghan as Jerome Valeska, John Doman as Carmine Falcone, David Dastmalchian as Dwight Pollard, PJ Marshall as Cole Clemons, Jan Maxwell as Margaret Hearst, Dave Quay as Tarquin."

As for the rest of the season, it looks like we're heading to all-out war between Penguin and Ed Nygma, with Barbara Kean pulling many of the strings in the background.
