Warner Bros. latest film in the DC Cinematic Universe finally featured a member of DC's iconic Trinity as the lead character.
After debuting in the pages of All Star Comics #8 more than 75 years ago, Wonder Woman is now the subject of her first blockbuster epic. Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot provide an amazing portrayal of the character, and though there weren't any scenes left for the cutting room floor, there were some alterations made to one of the most iconic sequences in the film.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins revealed that there won't be any deleted scenes for the special features but did talk about how they replaced one scene entirely in order to further flesh out Wonder Woman's character and her reaction to the horrors of war.
"I wanted to ramp that tension as much as possible, and unfortunately, we didn't have it," the director said about the scene where Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor, and their group approach the front lines of No Man's Land.
"That scene was just a slightly tense scene of them walking," Jenkins said. "I was like 'I need her to see some brutality.' So, we added her seeing the horses being whipped. It was actually something that had been in the script originally."
Producer Charles Roven previously spoke about how their reshoots only served to clarify certain aspects, and that they weren't ever on the same scale as something like a Star Wars movie. Jenkins reiterated that point.
"We replaced that one scene with a reshot scene, and we didn't change the order of a single scene," she said. "So what you saw is exactly the movie that we were always making."
It's amazing that a big budget director on a superhero film could have such clear vision of what the film should be and also be able to capture that during principal photography. But Wonder Woman is a special film, and Jenkins proved to be a capable choice to helm it. We can't wait to see what she does for the sequel.
Wonder Woman is in theaters now.
