Wonder Woman was one of this summer's bonafide hits, with some speculating that it could take home an Academy Award. As it turns out, all of that award buzz apparently wasn't an intention of the film's director, Patty Jenkins.
In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Jenkins was asked about the film's rumored Oscar campaign. But as she revealed, the thought of the film being a contender for one of those awards never crossed her mind.
"When you’re making a movie it’s completely all consuming; there are many things you don’t have time to think about." Jenkins explained. "I certainly wasn’t thinking about the Oscars. It’s just not something you consider when you make these kinds of movies. I did the best that I could, but you kind of assume you’re not going to be considered for that kind of thing."
Nevertheless, Jenkins said that she's very surprised, and flattered, by the recent Oscar buzz.
"But now, hearing that, I’m so flattered and stunned and super honoured to be in the awards conversation."
If Wonder Woman were to gain an Oscar nomination - particularly for Best Picture - it would make history for DC Comics-inspired films. Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight was famously snubbed at its year's ceremonies, causing the Academy to expand its Best Picture category from five films to up to ten.
Wonder Woman currently has an 84.52 ComicBook.com Composite Score, the eighth-highest ComicBook.com Composite Score for a comic book movie. The film also has a 4.23 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Rating, making it the fifth highest rated comic book ever among ComicBook.com users.
