Nintendo Switch Version Of Acclaimed Adventure Game Rime Gets A Release Date

Rime, the beautiful indie action-adventure game reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Ico was one of the earliest third-party titles announced for Nintendo Switch, but an actual release has remained elusive. Thankfully, Rime developer Tequila Works has finally nailed down a date.

The Switch version of Rime has been the subject of some controversy, as the game was originally priced at $40, which is $10 more than the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 versions. The game's publisher eventually backtracked, dropping the digital version of the game to $30. The physical version of Rime still costs $40 on Switch, but it's a "special edition," that also includes a digital soundtrack. Amazon Prime members can also save 20% on the pre-order.

On their website, publisher Rime publisher Grey Box explained why the Switch version has been delayed.

"Development on the Switch version of Rime began after development on the other versions. Fans who have been waiting for the Nintendo Switch version have been among the most patient, and so Grey Box and Tequila works wanted to make sure that the version of the game they received was in as strong a state as possible. The additional time was spent towards optimization for the Nintendo Switch."

They also assured fans the Switch game will be as close to the other versions as possible…

"The experience on the Switch is the same as on other systems, though with the added freedom to take the adventure anywhere using the Switch's portable functionality."

A number of multiplatform Switch games have arrived in somewhat shoddy shape, so it's probably for the best that Tequila Works are taking the time to get the most out of the system. Hopefully the performance and resolution issues that have effected games like Minecraft, Overcooked, and NBA Playgrounds won't affect Rime.

Rime begins its adventure on the Nintendo Switch on November 14 in North America and November 17 in Europe.
