The TV series that continues the adventures kicked off with the 1990 film Tremors has reached an important step, with star Kevin Bacon taking to Instagram to announce that the pilot had wrapped filming.
As seen in the above photo, Bacon's character had become a local celebrity after helping the residents of a small town in New Mexico survive an attack from monstrous "Graboids" springing up from the earth.
The film has spawned four sequels (with a fifth being released next year) but this is the first time that Bacon returned to the franchise that helped him become a big name in Hollywood.
"I was like - why would I make a sequel of a bomb?" Bacon revealed to Screen Daily earlier this year. "That makes no sense to me. I am not going to make another movie that's not going to do well at the box office. That is not a good career move."
In the years since its release, Tremors has gained a passionate cult following, with the film often being appreciated as one of the best monster movies of its time. Fans aren't the only ones who have begun to finally appreciate the film in the years since its release, with Bacon himself coming to realize the potential of the concept.
"It's the only character I've ever played that I was interested in exploring 25 years later," Bacon confessed. "It (Tremors) is a really good movie."
With Bacon departing the franchise, the only constant in all of the films since the initial installment has been Michael Gross as Burt Gummer. The actor shared with his Facebook fans last month that he won't be appearing in the TV series.
"For Tremors fans who have been asking, 'Will Kevin Bacon return to do the films?' or 'Is your Burt Gummer character going to be in Kevin's series?' I think we can say with a good deal of certainty that the answer to both questions is 'no,'" Gross shared. "The series is currently shooting in and around Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I have no other details."
The pilot episode for the planned SYFY series also stars Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead), Emily Tremaine (Vinyl) and Megan Ketch (American Gothic). Vincenzo Natali directs the pilot, having previously directed episodes of Westworld, American Gods and The Strain.
