The Super Bowl for Marvel Studios took place on Saturday in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con. The studio brought down the house with a stacked line-up of films and first looks. Among the first looks was the first footage for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

James Gunn and the cast of Guardians introduced the footage to a packed out Hall H auditorium of over 6,000 people. There were two clips released, a general trailer and a scene from the movie featuring Rocket, Groot and Yondu. Here's a description of the trailer, courtesy of Lucas Siegel:

"Awesome Mix Vol. 2, and Baby groot is plugging it in. Gamora and Star-Lord and Drax are on a building, hired to stop an interdimensional beast. Rocket's there, too. It's a trailer, y'all. The Sovereign we get to meet. They're golden, and Rocket says "They told me you're conceited douchebags, but that isn't true at all." Star-Lord calls Rocket a Raccoon, gets yelled at, and calls him a Trash Panda. They fight a giant space squid. Rocket shoots with Baby Groot on his shoulder. Stallone! Lots of punching, fighting. A huge egg-shaped thing lands, and it's Kurt Russell emerging. "After all these years I found you. My name is Ego, and I'm your dad, Peter." He wanted to experience what it was to be human. "I created what I thought a biological being would be like." "Did you make a penis?" Drax asked. 'Yes, Drax, I got a penis. It's not half bad, either.'"

And here's a description of the standalone scene, with Rocket, Groot, and Yondu breaking free from a Ravager prison.

"Rocket and Yondu fall into a jail. "We deliver you to the Kree in the morning. Neither one of you will last much longer after that," The Ravager says. They have baby groot in a cage, and put him in a Ravager outfit. Yondu is trying to get Baby Groot to help them. There's a "prototype fin" that he wears on his head. YES. He comes back with underwear, a severed toe, a mechanical eye, a desk. Baby Groot stealing stuff covertly is amazing. He brings the fin. AWESOME. A Ravager is shaving, and music starts to play. He has the fin! It glows when he uses his whistle arrow power. The song is being piped over the speakers. They're terrified he has the fin. "Come a little bit closer" plays, and Yondu, baby Groot, and Rocket walk confidently to the Ravagers. Yondu kills about 20 of them with one whistle. Holy crap.. They keep walking through this huge Ravager base, the arrow flying and bodies falling all around them. Groot is riding Yondu's shoulder now. He runs after someone screaming, grabs him with vines and tosses him off a balcony. Huge pop."

Saturday's footage won't be released publicly, at least for now, as much of it was incomplete. Visual effects and audio will see improvements right up until the film is released.

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
