Over the years, several actors have suited up as Spider-Man. In the early 2000s, Tobey Maguire was cast as the hero for a cinematic trilogy before Andrew Garfield played the hero in The Amazing Spider-Man films. Earlier this year, fans were introduced to Tom Holland's version of the character when Peter Parker swung into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War. Of course, some may wonder how Garfield feels about his junior inheriting the mantle of Spider-Man, but there's no bad blood between the two.

In fact, Garfield has actually given his blessing to Holland.

The actor sat down for an interview with Fandango where he talked about his career's past and future - so his superhero work became a point of discussion. Garfield was asked if he felt slighted over his removal from the role since the actor needed to make way for a new Spider-Man reboot.

"You know what? It's sliding door, right?" he said. "There are so many possible outcomes; so many positives and potential downsides to that situation. If I am being totally honest, I am so excited Spider-Man is back in the hands of Marvel. I think that's a really awesome move. It was a move that I've been advocating since I was offered the Spider-Man gig five or six years ago."

The actor continued and took time to praise Holland specifically. "I'm also excited for Tom Holland," Garfield gushed. "I think he's a very emotional, truthful, funny, physical actor, and I love the filmmaker -- it all really couldn't be in any better hands. I'm really stoked for it."

This isn't the first time that Garfield has talked about Holland's web-slinging role. Last fall, the British actor told Entertainment Tonight he is looking forward to Spider-Man's next theatrical chapter because, "Tom Holland is a really, really great actor."

Garfield also said Holland's casting took some burden off his shoulder as a fan. The actor admitted he is "excited" to be a fan against instead of someone involved with the superhero's mythos.

Still, fans shouldn't expect to see Garfield's legacy entirely disappear from the Spider-Man canon. Speaking with Variety, Holland revealed that there would be "things from Tobey and Andrew's character[s]" that he's going to steal for his own performance.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios' Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
