Logan Official Rating Still Being Decided by MPAA

Wolverine 3 aka Logan continues to build hype as a wonderful departure from your standard X-Men movie. Hugh Jackman and The Wolverine director James Mangold have reunited for a gritty and violent spaghetti western story that combines elements of "Old Man Logan" with the franchise's introduction of fan-favorite, X-23.
The first Logan red-band trailer teased the violent and bloody depiction of Wolverine and X-23's powers, but the new Logan red band trailer shows just how shockingly violent this superhero movie really is - with even a little girl (Laura Kinney/X-23) eviscerating grown men like kabobs (eat your heart out Deadpool...).
With what fans have seen in these red-band trailers, the natural assumption is that Logan is coming to us in bloody, violent, Rated-R, the same way Deadpool did. However, according to director James, Mangold, that's not the case...yet.
Speaking to Fandango, Mangold revealed that, "we haven't gotten through the ratings board yet. What you've seen might be the unrated version! That's a good question that we'll have to uncover. It's uncomfortable to talk about ratings only to the degree that we're not supposed to talk about ratings. Not because we're clearly making a hard film, but because we're not supposed to say what the rating should be since that's the job of the MPAA and we don't want to make them angry."
It should be noted that it's not at all unusual for a tentpole film like Logan to still have its official rating pending; although, given its March release date, things are coming down to the wire. At this point, most fans are expecting the first R-Rated Wolverine movie, so it would be strange for Fox to step back from that - especially after seeing the success of Deadpool.
On the other hand, given that the film involves a little girl cutting people to bloody bits, it might not be surprising if the MPAA (loose and easygoing organization that it is...) has a problem with some moments fitting within an R-rating. That's all to say: it's conceivable that we get an R-rating for Logan and an unrated version, as well.
