The villain of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has finally been revealed to the public, as we got our first look at Ayesha in the trailer for the film. The enigmatic villain and her people covered all in gold greets the team and asks "Just who the hell do you think you are?"
Well, the rest of the trailer reveals the answer to that question, as we get some good single shots of each member of the team, including new members Nebula, Yondu, and Mantis in the one minute spot.
Ayesha, played by Elizabeth Debicki, is more often referred to in the pages of Marvel Comics as either Paragon or simply "Her." Created by Len Wein, David Kraft, and Herb Trimpe, the character comes from "The Enclave," a group trying to artificially create super beings; they also created "Him," who became Adam Warlock. It looks like we'll be getting a much more cosmic take on the character of Ayesha, naturally, and probably be pulling in bits and pieces from several cosmic characters and groups.
Interestingly, Ayesha's counter part Adam Warlock is traditionally the character who possesses the Soul Gem, the final Infinity Stone that hasn't been revealed yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether her presence here is alluding to "Him" as well, we'll have to wait until May to find out. Check out the gallery below for a closer look at Ayesha, her followers, and her chamber.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
