If you have been waiting for Disneyland to unveil its much-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy ride, then you should know you are not the only one. The California theme park has been hard at work renovating the historic Tower of Terror into the sci-fi attraction, and Disney finally opened the ride to the public this weekend. The grand opening saw the park's attendance jump as Marvel diehards from across the country jumped at a chance to team up with the Guardians. So, naturally, lines queued up to cater to the thousands of fans.
Sadly, no one could have predicted how intense the wait would be.
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, social media has been flooded with photos of the ride's insane lines. Park goers posted pictures of the snaking queues, and the lines are nothing short of a nightmare for impatient adrenaline junkies. The lines for Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout wound throughout the entire California Adventure park. Just the fast passes for the ride alone averaged about five hours during Disneyland's peak times. And, if you were brave enough to venture into the queue on the fly, reports have said wait times were up to seven hours.
Yes, that's right. Park goers willingly waited seven hours to board a 4-5 minute ride. That is the power of Baby Groot, everyone.
Down in Disney World, the theme park also had an opening of its own to celebrate. The long-awaited Avatar section of the park's Animal Kingdom opened the weekend. On average, fans were said to have waited about two hours to get into Pandora, and rides had wait times between 3-4 hours. The park's gift shops also attracted lots of attention as wait times to simply enter the boutiques could range upwards of 3 hours.
With all this waiting, fans have had the sudden realization of how future vacations to Disney's parks will go. A single Marvel ride prompted 7-hour waits while a park based on Avatar's aging legacy conjured up hefty wait times as well. When Disneyland opens up its heralded Star Wars park in a few years, there's no telling how long fans will be stuck waiting just to enter the locale. Fans might as well go ahead and get in line now.
