Could the Disney & Fox Deal Explain Who Bought Avengers Tower?

Today's landmark deal between Disney and Fox will completely change the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. And while it will open the opportunity to introduce new characters into the MCU, it also could solve a major Spider-Man: Homecoming conundrum along the way.

As Marvel fans know, the solo movie had a subplot involving Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) selling the Avengers Tower. Along the way, this subplot gave the film's villain his third-act motivation, and possibly teased what's next for a few Avengers members. But it also made us wonder... who exactly bought Avengers Tower?

At the time, we speculated that it would be someone tied to the world of Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), whether that be Oscorp or The Daily Bugle. But a third option seems equally likely now -- that the Avengers Tower will now become the Baxter Building.

For the uninitiated, the Baxter Building serves as the headquarters for the Fantastic Four, characters who are a big part of what Fox is bringing into the MCU. The building is usually depicted as a 35-story office, which is frequently targeted by villains after the Fantastic Four (to the point where it becomes a sort of running joke within the comics). The Baxter Building has gone through other evolutions, particularly as a sort of art-deco apartment building, and then as a government facility, in the two ill-fated Fantastic Four franchises.

The possibility of Avengers Tower turning into the Baxter Building seemed nearly impossible when Homecoming was released back in July, due to the various confines of Marvel's licensing. But now that the Fantastic Four are back under Marvel's wing - and another reboot of the group seems in the cards - that kind of reveal seems like the perfect thing to throw into the background of Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4.

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on May 4, 2018. Thor: Ragnarok is now playing in theaters.
