New photos from the set of the untitled Avengers movie ignited a wave of speculation as some of Marvel Studios' most popular heroes joined Captain America, who was sporting his classic uniform.

While some thought this indicated a flashback, time-travel, or maybe even resurrections of characters who die in Avengers: Infinity War, it's hard to tell at this point. But someone noticed an interesting detail in the photos, which could have huge implications for the film's plot.

Specifically, what is on their hands?

Ant-Man, Iron Man and Captain America are all sporting strange devices strapped to one of their hands, with a circular section that appears to be a socket.

What if these were makeshift Infinity Gauntlets, meant for each of the heroes to wield one of the six Infinity Stones?

Meant to keep the vast power of the assembled stones from being wielded by one individual, these could be just a few of the heroes tasked with protecting the Infinity Stones. Of course, as we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy, holding one of the Stones out of its casing could destroy its user — Star-Lord only survived due to his Celestial blood.

But Tony Stark and his allies could find a way to develop devices that allow regular people to carry and perhaps even wield the individual Stones.

That could also explain why some of the cast members are covered in CG reference dots while filming, even though their in their superhero costumes. Perhaps wielding them causes Cap, Iron Man, and Ant-Man to glow with the power of the stones' respective colors?

Of course, we could be entirely off the mark. They could be related to time travel, or maybe they're cloaking devices meant to hide them from Thanos.

But if they are Infinity Stone gloves, we can't help but wonder: Why give one to Scott Lang? Do you know how much he could sell that for, or even what he could steal with it? Seriously, do a background check...

Avengers: Infinity War premieres May 4th.
