Ernest Cline's sci-fi novel Ready Player One is getting big screen treatment, thanks to the one and only Steven Spielberg. The Oscar-winning director is currently filming in the U.K., and for those dying to get a sneak peek, you're in luck.
Photos have emerged from the Birmingham, England, set turning the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter into a dystopian American future. According to the pictures, posted mostly by excited fans on Twitter, Spielberg is staying pretty close to how many would imagine the novel to look like.
Another thing spotted in the photos? Nods to Jaws and Gremlins which doesn't come as a surprise as the book mentions many of Spielberg's past films, as well as other pop culture references.
For those unfamiliar with the novel, Ready Player One takes place in 2044 and follows teenager Wade Watts who is living in the slums and spends most of his time jacked into the virtual utopia, OASIS, where he has dedicated his life to studying the hidden digital puzzles. After Wade discovers the first puzzle, thousands of competitors join the hunt and are willing to kill to win the prize. To survive, Wade has preserve everything he knows.
"Ready Player One" is set to hit theaters March 30th, 2018, and stars Olivia Cooke, Tye Sheridan, Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn, TJ Miller, and Mark Rylance. And though the summer of 2018 may seem far off, judging by the photos, it will be worth the wait.
