5 Things We Expect to See in Star Wars: The Last Jedi
In a breaking news announcement we've learned that Star Wars: Episode VIII has been officially [...]
The Implied Stakes
The biggest looming question right now is, "Who is (or are) the Last Jedi?" There's a thriller element to the title that fans are definitely going to want in the film.
Whether it's Luke as a mentor, Kylo/Rey/Finn as pupils, or some combination of all that, Episode VIII needs to put the existence of The Jedi in real question - in a palpable way that makes audiences sweat and tremble.

Right now, Star Wars fans are buzzing and chirping about what The Last Jedi means - which is exactly the reaction Lucasfilm wanted.
"The Internet is gonna Internet," as they say, so there will be many, many, theories about this by the time The Last Jedi hits theaters. However, we wouldn't expect such a provocative title being chosen just for novelty; we're keeping open minds that it could be misdirection for a major twist (like a certain villain's redemption?).

You know that big Darth Vader moment at the end of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? Yeah, we need some of that from Luke Skywalker too.
Most of Luke's action in The Original Trilogy were slower duels; the battle against Jabba showed Luke as a capable master - but by the era of The Last Jedi, we expect to see a much more powerful "Master Luke" - maybe scary powerful...

It should be remembered that Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke are not confirmed Sith Lords. In fact, Snoke is not a confirmed Force user at all, and supplementary materials for The Force Awakens (like the official visual guide) reveal that Kylo Ren's light/dark imbalance is what made him attractive to Snoke in the first place.
Those threads of information suggest that the actual Sith Order has yet to make a full resurgence in the new Force Awakens era - but we expect they could definitely show up again in The Last Jedi. If/when they do, they'll be as unhappy with "pretenders" like Snoke and Ren as they are with return of Luke Skywalker and the Jedi Order.

Going back to the implications of the title: "The Last Jedi" doesn't necessarily have to spell doom and peril for the heroic order - it could also signify an evolution.
With Episode VIII marking the true "passing of the torch" to a new generation of Star Wars heroes, we expect that we could see a new order rising from the ashes of The Jedi.
