The hype for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is larger than ever, and Twitter is joining in in a pretty adorable way.

To celebrate the release of The Last Jedi's newest batch of promotional materials - a new trailer, a new poster, and tickets going on sale - Twitter unveiled a new emoji tied to one of the film's hashtags. But it wasn't the film's characters or even its title that earned the emoji, it was the film's director, Rian Johnson.

Twitter has used these hashtag emojis quite a bit in recent years, to help promote popular movies and television shows. Most recently, the social networking platform debuted emojis for Justice League and Thor: Ragnarok.

Still, Johnson getting an emoji is certainly a unique thing, and signifies just how excited people are for his take on the Star Wars saga. The Last Jedi's promotional material has certainly captivated audiences, and given fans a lot of questions they're hoping Johnson can answer. But it seems like the director has a pretty clear idea of the franchise's goal - one he relayed in a recent interview.

"What [Star Wars] is really about is the transition from adolescence into adulthood," Johnson explained earlier this week. "And a big part of that is navigating the relationship with your family, with your parents, with the people closest to you, with the people you most love, the people you're most afraid of."

Only time will tell if Twitter unveils emojis for The Last Jedi's cast of characters, because you know you want to mark your tweets with a Porg emoji.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters December 15.
