To say that Star Wars: The Last Jedi received a mixed reaction from fans would be a massive understatement. Depending on who you ask, the movie is one of the best films in the franchise or the absolute worst, with few opinions in the middle.

Star John Boyega seems to have recognized this response to the movie, taking to social media to address the common reactions he sees among fans. Check it out below.

Boyega's level-headed response is sure to be lost on some who are angry that he doesn't take pride in his work or that he's helped destroy the very franchise that made people's childhood so great.

Of course, this is the age of social media, when people must make bold, declarative statements to illicit responses or else they'll be lost in the ethers forever. Surely someone could convince Boyega that he was taking the wrong approach?

Hmm, well then, perhaps there is no hope for the actor.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the latest film in the popular saga, receiving near universal praise from critics while the viewing audiences were decidedly more mixed.

The movie, like every other Star Wars film, is far from perfect. It is entirely possible to enjoy it while recognizing its flaws, and it's also possible to dislike it as well. But then there are the responses in the form of petitions, demanding that Lucasfilm strike the movie from the canon and start over, that are bordering at the sweet spot between "asinine," "insulting," and "idiotic."

At the end of the day, it is all a matter of personal taste. But when an opinion is expressed in a way that insults or harasses those who differ, that's not just uncouth — it stands against the teachings Star Wars has come to represent.

So maybe just chill out, on both sides of the aisle, eh?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now playing in theaters everywhere.
