As 2017 draws to a close, it's time to reflect on a year filled with great entertainment and recall what stood out and what will stay with us. To that end, the ComicBook.com team came together to nominate our favorite creators and creations in the worlds of comics, television, movies, and anime, then voted on five finalists in every category. The results are in and they reflect some outstanding talent and a truly great year for pop culture.

The Best TV Hero category was dominated by strong women, with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) from The Defenders competing against Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey) from Fear The Walking Dead, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) from DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) herself. The sole male nominee was Peter Serafinowicz's reinvented take on The Tick.

And the winner of Best TV Hero is...

Jessica Jones in The Defenders on Netflix!

In the same year Time named The #MeToo movement as their Person of the Year, it is maybe no surprise that ComicBook.com's Best TV Hero honor belongs to Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter).

Ritter's Jones in The Defenders was a bit less dark and more accessible than her solo series, in which she struggled with personal demons, toxic masculinity, and the challenges that come with being an abuse surivor in a fairly explicit way.

Even among the somewhat more colorful cast of The Defenders, Jones is a standout in much the same way a character like Wynonna Earp manages to be while she stands shoulder to shoulder with immortals and monster men on her Syfy show. Woe be to the ninja or gun-toting flunky who underestimates Jessica Jones; she will put you through a wall and keep moving without ever making eye contact.

The casual badassery of Jones is played up by Ritter's performance, which (like Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman) manages to make the audience believe in her physical strength in spite of her small stature in part by making it look so effortless that there is never a moment of "will she manage it?"
