The WWE universe had a feeling that Kevin Owens wasn't leaving Fastlane as the Universal Champion, as it seemed Goldberg was destined to grab the title as part of his ongoing feud with Brock Lesnar. Still, it seemed rather ridiculous that a champion like Owens wouldn't at least get some hits in.
It's especially ridiculous once you factor in Goldberg's previous history, a history that includes a match on WCW Thunder in 1998 (via Squared Circle Reddit). That was the night an undefeated Goldberg marched into the ring with at the time NWO member Virgil. The ending isn't surprising mind you, as after a spear and a jackhammer Virgil ate the mat. What is surprising is that Virgil managed to do something Owens couldn't manage despite his weeks of antagonizing Goldberg on twitter, and that was get a punch in.
As you can see in the video above, Virgil didn't just land a punch, he actually landed eight offensive strikes on Goldberg before the bell even rang. Granted, his onslaught didn't last long, but it lasted a whole 32 seconds. That's 11 seconds more than Owens lasted in the ring with Goldberg, and Virgil didn't even have a championship on the line.
Next up for Goldberg is an appearance at the showcase of the immortals, WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, Florida. Goldberg will be defending his Universal Championship against a hungry Brock Lesnar. The show kicks off Sunday, April 2nd, and you can find the fully announced card below.
