Captain Marvel Screenwriters Haven't Started Writing The Script Yet

In April, Marvel officially announced that screenwriters Meg LeFauve ("Inside Out") and Nicole Perlman ("Guardians of the Galaxy") would pen the script for the Captain Marvel film, but for whatever reason they haven't even begun writing the script. However, they have plenty of time since Marvel just pushed back the film's release date from November 2, 2018 to March 8, 2019.

"Yeah, we haven’t started yet! We have not started yet," LeFauve told Collider. "We just got the phone call to come over to Marvel. But for me personally, the wonderful thing about her and the challenge of her is going to be that she’s a female superhero. And that is awesome because she’s so powerful, and how hard is that going to be because she’s so powerful? We don’t want the Superman curse. “What’s her vulnerability?” is what we have to figure out."

And that's a big challenge. Like DC Comics with Superman, Marvel Comics made the same mistake of making Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) incredibly powerful but didn't balance it out with enough vulnerabilities. She has super strength, super speed, she can fly, she's impervious to pretty much everything, incredible stamina, can absorb energy, a super healing factor, and can generate extremely powerful photon blasts. There's still more abilities and skills I haven't listed but you get the point.

As for weaknesses, her self-esteem issues make her vulnerable to mental manipulation. She's a recovering alcoholic that once used the bottle to cope with emotional baggage, but the chances of Marvel touching upon that aspect in the MCU are slim to none. She can be brought down with an overload of energy absorption. Attacks based on magical elements have also worked on her. However, I would assume the screenwriters will focus on Carol's impulsive nature as she has been known to bravely leap into action without thinking things through. It's just too bad that the rights to two of Carol's toughest foes from the comics (not recently), Rogue and Mystique, are over at Fox.

Captain Marvel is scheduled for release on March 8, 2019.
