Glitches giveth and glitches taketh away. Since launching this past Friday, Prey players have found handy bugs that allow you to craft infinite ammo and health and beat the game in under 20 minutes. Unfortunately, people playing the PC version of Prey have run into much-less-pleasant bugs that may corrupt your save files.

IGN's reviewers and a good number of Steam users have been affected by an issue that corrupts recent save files, leaving players with "Save game incompatible with current game version" messages. You can try to load an older save, but word is they too will eventually become corrupted. Perhaps most frustrating, this Prey glitch seems to strike late in the game, with IGN reporting it happening 30 to 40 hours in.

Bethesda is aware of the issue and is working on a fix, although nothing has been delivered yet:

"We are looking into the issues that people are experiencing, and are actively working to provide an update to address them. We ask that if you are encountering issues, please report them on our support group website."

This situation is particularly galling, as Prey developer Arkane Studios specifically promised the PC version of the game would run smoothly.

"Given what happened with Dishonored 2, we doubled our thoroughness in making sure that the game is going to run smoothly. At this point the game is fully ready, but that's what we've been doing for the past months--a lot of tests on different configurations and making sure it works. So, we're pretty confident. You never know. But we're pretty confident."

Third time's the charm? It seems this issue only impacts the PC version of Prey, so folks playing on Xbox One and PS4 can continue unhindered. As for PC players, well, you may want to hold off until a fix is found.

You can check out WWG's early impressions of Prey right here. Assuming nothing happens to my saves, a full review should be coming later this week.
