It looks like audiences might just get a better understanding of why Matt Murdock's mentor Stick has been warning the hero about The Hand for the past two seasons of Daredevil when The Defenders debuts on Netflix later this week.

In a clip posted to the official Daredevil series Twitter account today, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver) confronts someone whose face is concealed by a hood. She then removes the hood after warning her captive not to bite her and calls them "old friend." When the hood comes off the prisoner is shown to be none other than Stick. You can watch the clip above.

While the reveal of Alexandra and Stick having some sort of history is a shock, it should come as no surprise that the two are connected considering Stick's immense knowledge about The Hand and Alexandra's presumed ties to the organization. While Alexandra is still shrouded in mystery we at least now know that the team has a personal connection to the villain. The question is exactly what the details of that connection are and with Alexandra referring to Stick as an old friend we're wondering what it means for the Defenders and their side of the war for New York.

Fortunately, the wait for answers is almost over. The Defenders debuts on Netflix on August 18th.

Marvel's The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
