We're under the three week mark for the release of Captain America: Civil War in domestic markets, and that means tracking for the film's opening has officially begun. The first reports are looking great, with a $175 million-plus opener.
If it sees that number, that would put it at the fifth largest opening of all-time, behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Avengers, Jurassic World, and of course Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It would also put it way above the other two Captain America films; The First Avengers had a $65 million opening, and a lifetime domestic gross of $176.7 million - yes, Civil War could actually outgross First Avenger in one weekend. The Winter Soldier had a $95 million opening.
Captain America: Civil War currently has a 94% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes with 17/18 reviews counted being fresh, and one discerning review. It hits theaters May 6, 2016.
