Just how good is Guardians of the Galaxy? Well, with nineteen reviews to date submitted for the film on Rotten Tomatoes, Guardians of the Galaxy has a 100% approval rating.
Now, granted that nineteen reviews is not enough to establish a consensus on Rotten Tomatoes yet, it's still a really impressive feat. The reviews also aren't just from small sites, but include leading entertainment news sites like The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and TheWrap.
Think about this. Guardians of the Galaxy is a movie featuring a group of relatively unknown Marvel characters, including a talking raccoon and a tree that only says three words. Just on the face of it, one might think Guardians of the Galaxy would be the perfect movie for film critics burnt out on superhero movies to rip into.
Except they can't, because director James Gunn has genuinely created a film that just might be too good for anyone to hate. At the screening that Comicbook.com attended, we can tell you the film received a round of applause from the audience we viewed it with. And the audience consisted of a combination of both comic book fans and people who had no clue who the characters were.
We would not be surprised if Guardians of the Galaxy winds up being the best-reviewed Marvel Studios film of the year. Heck, it could wind up being that best-reviewed film period of the year. Gunn took a concept that many anticipated might be Marvel Studios' first big stumble and created something magical that could wind up being one of the studios biggest successes yet both critically and commercially.
