It's Elementary! IDW to Release Sherlock Holmes Volume 1 in Hardcover

Arguably one of the most famous detectives in all of fiction, Sherlock Holmes is seeing a rebirth in 2009, first with a major motion picture due out on Christmas Day of this year and now with IDW Publishing's announcement that it is set to release Sherlock Holmes Volume One, a vast collection of the original short stories and novels that first featured the detective and his faithful companion Dr. Watson, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The collection will feature illustrations by artist Kelley Jones, known for his work on Neil Gaiman's Sandman and most recently the mini-series Batman: Gotham After Midnight. Volume One of this impressive collection, available in November, will feature classic Holmes' stories such as "A Study in Scarlet" and "The Adventure of the Speckled Band." The stories will come in the order in which Holmes first experienced them in Doyle's fictional world, creating a progression through the works that will show Holmes' history in a new light. IDW CEO Ted Adams felt that the idea was riding a wave of continual interest in the character. ""Sherlock Holmes is such an iconic character and there's a real appeal to him and to Watson even now. We decided to publish the stories in chronological order and I think both old and new Holmes fans will enjoy it." With the first collection of stories coming out before the film, fans new and old will have the chance to go into the movie with a sense of history and appreciation for this literary giant.
