Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage have all arrived to Netflix. Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, was just cast with Game of Thrones' Finn Jones playing the super hero trained in the martial arts. Their journeys are soon to cross paths with all these heroes uniting under the name of Defenders, in a Netflix crossover series. While we've certainly seen all of these characters, we still aren't quite sure what the threat will be that they're fighting. Comicbook.com fan, Caspar Blackspike, believes that the answer is hiding in plain sight, and the super villain team known as the Zodiac will be the team's major threat.

The Zodiac have had many different incarnations over the years, and wildly varying power levels. First fighting the Avengers, this super villain cartel all based their alter egos on the stars, with members including Pisces, Taurus, Scorpio and others. There was even an incarnation of the team created by the major big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos, who appeared recently, but I would imagine that if they're going to antagonize the Defenders, they'll be a bit depowered from being able to fight the likes of Thor and the Incredible Hulk.

Caspar points out the various references to the Zodiac in both Daredevil and Jessica Jones respectively. Wilson Fisk, during a campaign event, mentions that Cornelius Van Lunt was a man who found himself Senator thanks to his "crack pot team of astrologists" clearly referencing the Zodiac. Van Lunt was actually the bull headed monster known as Taurus in the comics at one point, and in the Netflix series, Cornelius in fact had once owned the building where the offices of Nelson and Murdock now reside. A lot of references to a character who never appears in person in either Daredevil or Jessica Jones.

In Jessica Jones, the bizarre and annoying neighbor of Jessica named Robyn makes two references that could be referring to the Zodiac. When she is first introduced, she is sure to note that herself and her brother are both Pisces in the astrological spectrum. Later on, when the hunt is on for Kilgrave, Robyn also makes mention that she had, at one time, been recruited by a cult but it didn't take. Another note harkening back to the Zodiac perhaps? The stars were perhaps aligning to point toward this direction (bad joke, sorry).

Hurling another team in the path of the Defenders would make for a good first hurdle for the team. Following the adventures of all these heroes, along with the more out there elements of Iron Fist for example, the Zodiac would be able to be a welcome fit to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While this team would be new, Zodiac has somewhat appeared in the MCU before when Agent Carter was attempting to find a virus of the same name with a similar symbol inscribed on the vial housing it.

The Zodiac has long been a group of super villains that have played key roles in Marvel's past history, and could work well as the first team of villains to burst onto the scene of the Marvel Netflix universe.
