Karen Gillan was at SXSW this past weekend to promote her upcoming horror film, Oculus. While there, MTV got her to talk about her upcoming role in Guardians of the Galaxy as Nebula. Gillan says that she plays a very serious character in an, otherwise, very funny film. "Okay, so Nebula does not find herself funny," Gillan said, laughing. "I find her hilarious. But she can't find herself hilarious, that's not scary." Gillan also confirmed that Nebula would be mixing it up with Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana, as seen in the first trailer. "Yeah, there's a big girlie fight sequence, but it's not that girlie," Gillan said. "They made sure there weren't any nice pirouettes or anything like that." "This is the integral one for my character, because it's not just a physical battle," Gillan said. "Their relationship goes very deep, and there's a huge history between them. So there's a lot more to it than just the physical." Nebula is an agent of Thanos who has a past relationship with Gamora, who is (in the comics at least) Thanos' adopted daughter. In Guardians of the Galaxy, in the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. Guardians of the Galaxy opens in theaters August 1, 2014.
